Casa na Terra is located just 5 minutes away from Monsaraz and the Alqeva Beach. The design of this house is inspired by the surrounding landscape, and it seeks to minimize its impact on the environment. The building has been constructed in a way that allows it to completely dissolve into the topography, blending seamlessly with the rolling green hills. This approach ensures that the house does not detract from the natural beauty of the area or obstruct any views.
The house features several patios and a large dome that provide a natural link between the interior and exterior spaces. Inside, there are three ensuite rooms that are bright and airy, each with its own adjoining private patio. The kitchen and living area are also designed to maximize the views of the property and the stunning Alqueva lake.
The dome, which appears to have been carved out of the hillside itself, is the central gathering place for guests. It is a natural and organic element that further reinforces the connection between the house and the landscape.
Overall, this house is a stunning example of how architecture can be seamlessly integrated with the environment. Its design celebrates the beauty of the natural world while offering luxurious accommodations for guests to enjoy.
Designed by the architect Manuel Aires Mateus, the project won Arch Daily's Building of the Year in 2020.
