  • The story of Postcard Cabins began when founder and CEO Jon Staff, at 25, sought a simpler life after the demands of a fast-paced startup job. Inspired by his time living in a 26-foot Airstream while traveling the American West, Jon realized that others also needed a way to escape, recharge, and unplug in nature. In the summer of 2015, Jon and his college friend Pete Davis launched what was initially known as Getaway. The first cabin, Ovida, opened in southern New Hampshire outside Boston, quickly becoming popular. By April 2016, after significant press coverage and support from investors, Postcard Cabins expanded to a second Outpost in New York. The growing demand led to further expansion, with locations now available near major cities across the United States. Jon continues to apply the lessons he learned during his journey, advocating for better work-life balance through disconnection to improve relationships, job performance, and enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures, such as time spent with loved ones and in nature.

Today, Postcard Cabins is a leading name in outdoor accommodations, committed to making nature accessible to everyone. With 29 locations conveniently located within a two-hour drive of major U.S. cities, Postcard Cabins offers a perfect escape from daily life, inviting guests to reconnect with the natural world. Each Outpost is set on expansive private woodlands, providing a balance between privacy and community to create meaningful experiences for those seeking more free time and deeper connections with nature.

The custom-built tiny cabins, ranging from 140 to 200 square feet, are crafted to integrate natural elements such as wood, metal, and glass, with Eastern White Pine used throughout to ensure a seamless transition between the interior and the outdoors. Each cabin features a large picture window, thoughtfully positioned to allow guests to wake up or fall asleep to stunning natural views. Uniquely, each cabin is named after the grandparents of Postcard Cabins team members and guests, ensuring no two cabins share the same name.

Inside, the cabins are equipped with everything necessary for a simple, comfortable getaway. Guests will find a queen bed or queen bunks, linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, hot shower complete with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, as well as heat and air conditioning. For outdoor enjoyment, each cabin has a fire pit with a grilling grate and seating area, while cookware, silverware, dishware, and a mini-library are also provided. To encourage disconnection, a cell phone lockbox is included. Dogs are welcome for a $50 fee per booking, with provided amenities like dog bowls, treats, waste bags, and an outdoor lead. Each cabin also has a landline for emergencies, ensuring safety despite limited cell phone reception.

Postcard Cabins enhances the outdoor experience by offering options such as Outdoor Suites, which provide a larger outdoor area with a hammock, chef’s station, and string lights, available at select locations including Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock. Additionally, guests can choose early check-in or late check-out to extend their stay.

  • The best time to visit Postcard Cabins at Blake Brook is during the spring and autumn months, from April to June and September to October. During these periods, the weather is mild and comfortable, with cooler temperatures and a fresh breeze, making it perfect for enjoying the serene forest surroundings, outdoor activities, and cozy cabin stays.

Spring brings blooming wildflowers and vibrant greenery, while autumn treats visitors to stunning foliage and crisp, golden-hued landscapes. These seasons also offer fewer crowds, allowing for a peaceful and intimate escape.

While the summer months (July and August) can be beautiful, they tend to bring warmer temperatures and more visitors, particularly for those looking to take advantage of nearby lakes and trails. Winter, though quieter, has its own charm for those seeking a cozy, snowy retreat—ideal for fireside relaxation and winter walks.

Pair your tasting with a delicious dinner, or visit on Sunday for their popular brunch. Don’t forget to explore the grounds—you might even come across a few friendly barnyard animals who call the vineyard home.
