The story of Postcard Cabins began when founder and CEO Jon Staff, at just 25 years old, sought relief from the pressures of his demanding startup career. Embarking on a transformative journey across the American West in a 26-foot Airstream, Jon discovered the profound benefits of unplugging, recharging, and reconnecting with nature. Inspired by this experience and recognizing a universal need for respite, he partnered with his college friend Pete Davis to launch the company in 2015. Initially named Getaway, the first cabin, Ovida, opened near Boston in southern New Hampshire and quickly gained traction. By 2016, following widespread media attention and investor backing, the company expanded to a second location in New York. As its popularity grew, the company rebranded as Postcard Cabins, reflecting its mission to provide peaceful escapes. Today, it operates nationwide, offering unique retreats for those seeking balance, deeper connections, and an appreciation for life’s simpler moments.
Postcard Cabins has become a leading outdoor accommodation brand, with 29 locations across the U.S., all situated within a two-hour drive of major cities. These private woodland retreats strike a balance between solitude and community, creating opportunities for meaningful experiences in nature.
The custom-built cabins range from 140 to 200 square feet and are designed with natural materials like wood, metal, and glass. Eastern White Pine interiors create a warm, inviting atmosphere, while large picture windows provide stunning views of sunrises, starlit skies, and peaceful landscapes. Each cabin is uniquely named in honor of the grandparents of team members and guests, adding a personal and nostalgic touch.
Thoughtfully appointed, the cabins include queen or bunk beds, cozy linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, and a hot shower stocked with essential toiletries. Climate control ensures comfort in all seasons. Outdoor features include a fire pit with a grilling grate, seating, and convenient extras like cookware, dishware, and a curated mini-library. A cell phone lockbox encourages guests to fully unplug, while pet-friendly cabins provide amenities such as dog bowls, treats, waste bags, and outdoor leads for a $50 fee. Landlines are available in areas with limited cell service for added safety.
For an elevated experience, select Outposts—including Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock—offer Outdoor Suites. These expanded spaces feature hammocks, chef’s stations, and string lights, perfect for a relaxing retreat. Flexible early check-in and late check-out options provide guests more time to savor the serenity of their surroundings, ensuring every stay is restorative and unforgettable.
