Postcard Cabins emerged from founder Jon Staff’s pursuit of a simpler, more balanced life. At 25, feeling exhausted from a hectic startup career, he took to the road in a 26-foot Airstream, traveling across the American West. It was during this journey that Jon recognized a shared need for others to unplug, recharge, and reconnect with nature. In 2015, he partnered with his college friend Pete Davis to create what was initially known as Getaway. Their first cabin, Ovida, opened in southern New Hampshire near Boston, and its immediate popularity affirmed the demand for such retreats. By April 2016, after significant media coverage and investor support, they expanded to a second location in New York. The growing demand led to further expansion, spreading across the United States, with Jon’s original vision of disconnection guiding the brand's mission: to inspire a healthier work-life balance and deeper appreciation for life’s simple joys.
Today, Postcard Cabins is a top brand in outdoor accommodations, aiming to make nature accessible for everyone. With 29 locations situated within a two-hour drive from major U.S. cities, it offers an ideal escape from daily routines, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the natural world. Each Outpost is nestled within private woodlands, providing a thoughtful blend of solitude and a sense of community, encouraging meaningful experiences.
The tiny cabins, custom-built and ranging from 140 to 200 square feet, are crafted with natural materials like wood, metal, and glass, with Eastern White Pine used throughout to create a seamless connection to the outdoors. Each cabin features a large picture window, perfectly positioned to capture breathtaking views of the sunrise or the starry night sky, allowing guests to feel fully enveloped by nature. Adding a personal touch, the cabins are uniquely named after the grandparents of team members and guests, ensuring each has its own character.
Inside, the cabins are equipped with everything needed for a simple, comfortable stay. Each cabin includes a queen bed or bunks, linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, and a hot shower stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Heating and air conditioning ensure comfort throughout the year, while a fire pit with a grilling grate and outdoor seating provides an inviting space for guests to enjoy the outdoors. Essentials such as cookware, silverware, dishware, and a mini-library are also provided, with a cell phone lockbox available to encourage guests to disconnect. Guests can bring dogs along for a $50 fee, with amenities like dog bowls, treats, waste bags, and an outdoor lead. For safety, each cabin is equipped with a landline, as cell phone reception may be limited.
Postcard Cabins also offers options to enhance the outdoor experience, including Outdoor Suites that feature larger outdoor spaces complete with a hammock, chef’s station, and string lights for added atmosphere. These suites are available at select locations such as Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock. Additionally, guests can opt for early check-in or late check-out, allowing more time to relax and fully embrace the natural surroundings.
