Postcard Cabins was inspired by Jon Staff's quest for a simpler life. At 25, feeling overwhelmed by the demands of a fast-paced startup job, he embarked on a journey through the American West in a 26-foot Airstream. This experience opened his eyes to the need for a retreat from everyday life, prompting him to team up with college friend Pete Davis in 2015 to launch what was initially called Getaway. Their first cabin, Ovida, opened near Boston in southern New Hampshire, quickly becoming a beloved destination. By April 2016, thanks to extensive media coverage and enthusiastic investor support, the company expanded to New York and continued to grow across the country. Jon’s journey remains central to Postcard Cabins’ mission, emphasizing the importance of disconnection for achieving a healthier work-life balance and fostering deeper connections with loved ones and nature.
Today, Postcard Cabins is a prominent name in outdoor accommodations, dedicated to making nature accessible to all. With 29 locations within a two-hour drive of major U.S. cities, it provides a perfect escape for those looking to step away from their daily routines and immerse themselves in the natural world. Each Outpost is nestled in private woodlands, offering a harmonious blend of privacy and community, ideal for creating meaningful experiences.
The cabins, custom-built and ranging from 140 to 200 square feet, are designed with natural materials like wood, metal, and glass, featuring Eastern White Pine throughout to foster a seamless connection with the outdoors. Each cabin boasts a large picture window, thoughtfully positioned to frame stunning views of sunrises or starry nights, allowing guests to fully embrace their natural surroundings. Adding a personal touch, each cabin is named after the grandparents of team members and guests, ensuring that every space has its unique identity.
Inside, the cabins are well-equipped for a comfortable getaway. Guests will find a queen bed or bunks, linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, and a hot shower stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Heating and air conditioning ensure year-round comfort, while outdoor amenities include a fire pit with a grilling grate and seating area, perfect for enjoying evenings under the stars. Each cabin also provides cookware, silverware, dishware, and a mini-library, along with a cell phone lockbox to encourage disconnection from technology. Dogs are welcome for a $50 fee, with amenities such as dog bowls, treats, waste bags, and an outdoor lead available. For added safety, each cabin features a landline, despite limited cell service in the area.
To enhance the outdoor experience, Postcard Cabins offers Outdoor Suites, which include more spacious outdoor areas with hammocks, chef’s stations, and string lights for an inviting atmosphere. These suites are available at select locations, including Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock. Additionally, guests can take advantage of early check-in or late check-out options, providing more time to relax and enjoy the tranquility of nature.
