  • The journey of Postcard Cabins began when Jon Staff, the founder and CEO, was 25 and looking for a simpler life after the demands of a fast-paced startup job left him burned out. While living in a 26-foot Airstream and traveling across the American West, Jon recognized a need for a place where others could escape, recharge, and disconnect in nature. In the summer of 2015, he and his college friend Pete Davis launched the company, originally called Getaway. The first cabin, named Ovida, opened in southern New Hampshire near Boston, quickly gaining popularity. By April 2016, fueled by widespread media coverage and investor support, the company expanded to a second location in New York. With growing demand, Postcard Cabins continued to add new sites and now offers locations near major cities across the United States. Jon still draws on the lessons he learned from his journey, advocating for better work-life balance through disconnection to enhance relationships, job satisfaction, and the simple joys of life, such as spending time in nature and with loved ones.

Today, Postcard Cabins is a leading outdoor accommodation brand, committed to making nature accessible to all. With 29 locations within a two-hour drive of major U.S. cities, it provides the perfect escape from daily life, allowing guests to reconnect with the natural world. Each Outpost is set on expansive private woodlands, offering a balance of privacy and community for those seeking meaningful experiences, more free time, and deeper connections with nature.

The custom-built tiny cabins, ranging from 140 to 200 square feet, are designed to incorporate natural elements like wood, metal, and glass, with Eastern White Pine used throughout to create a seamless blend between the interior and the outdoors. Large picture windows are thoughtfully positioned to let guests wake up to sunrise views or fall asleep under the stars. Each cabin has a unique name, chosen to honor the grandparents of Postcard Cabins team members and guests, ensuring that no two share the same name.

Inside, each cabin includes everything needed for a comfortable and simple getaway: a queen bed or bunks, linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, and a hot shower with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Heating and air conditioning provide year-round comfort. For outdoor relaxation, there is a fire pit with a grilling grate and seating area, while cookware, silverware, dishware, and a mini-library enhance the stay. A cell phone lockbox encourages guests to unplug, and dogs are welcome for a $50 fee, with amenities like dog bowls, treats, waste bags, and an outdoor lead. A landline is available in each cabin for emergencies, providing peace of mind despite limited cell phone reception.

Postcard Cabins also enhances the outdoor experience by offering features like the Outdoor Suites, which provide larger outdoor areas with a hammock, chef’s station, and string lights, available at select locations such as Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock. Guests can also opt for early check-in or late check-out to extend their stay and make the most of their time in nature.
