The story of Postcard Cabins began with founder and CEO Jon Staff, who, at just 25, yearned for a simpler life after feeling burned out by the demands of a fast-paced startup career. While traveling across the American West in a 26-foot Airstream, Jon discovered the universal need for a space where people could escape the noise, recharge, and reconnect with nature. Inspired by this insight, he joined forces with his college friend Pete Davis in 2015 to launch what was initially known as Getaway. Their first tiny cabin, Ovida, opened in southern New Hampshire near Boston and quickly captured the imagination of guests seeking solace in nature. By April 2016, buoyed by media buzz and investor support, the company expanded to its second location in New York. As demand for these serene retreats grew, Postcard Cabins evolved into a nationwide brand, offering thoughtfully designed escapes near major cities across the United States.
Today, Postcard Cabins operates 29 locations, all strategically placed within a two-hour drive of urban centers, making it easy for guests to disconnect from the daily grind. Each Outpost is set on private woodlands, offering a perfect blend of seclusion and community. Guests are invited to slow down, find free time, and rediscover a deeper connection to nature. The tiny cabins, ranging from 140 to 200 square feet, are crafted with natural materials like wood, metal, and glass, featuring warm Eastern White Pine interiors that echo the surrounding landscape. Expansive picture windows frame breathtaking views, from sunrise to starlit skies, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. Each cabin’s name is a tribute to the grandparents of team members and guests, adding a personal and unique touch to every stay.
Designed for simplicity and comfort, the cabins come fully equipped with essentials: a queen bed or bunks, linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, and a hot shower with provided toiletries. Heating and air conditioning ensure a cozy retreat in any season. Outside, guests can enjoy a fire pit with a grilling grate and a seating area perfect for stargazing or storytelling. Essentials like cookware, dishware, and a curated mini-library are included, while a cell phone lockbox encourages digital detox. Dogs are welcome for a small fee and are treated to thoughtful amenities like bowls, treats, waste bags, and an outdoor lead. A landline is available in every cabin for emergencies, ensuring safety and peace of mind in remote areas.
Postcard Cabins also offers upgraded experiences at select locations, such as Outdoor Suites. These enhanced spaces include hammocks, chef’s stations, and string lights, perfect for unwinding in style. Popular sites like Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock feature these premium options. Guests can also extend their stays with early check-in or late check-out, ensuring more time to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the natural surroundings. Postcard Cabins continues to inspire guests to embrace life’s simple pleasures and forge meaningful connections with nature and loved ones.
