Postcard Cabins was founded in 2015 by Jon Staff, who sought a retreat from the fast-paced startup world. Feeling burned out, he traveled across the American West in a 26-foot Airstream, discovering a universal need for spaces to disconnect and reconnect with nature. Inspired by this journey, Jon partnered with his college friend Pete Davis to launch Getaway, opening their first cabin, Ovida, near Boston in southern New Hampshire. The venture quickly became a success, leading to the establishment of a second Outpost in New York by 2016. Rebranded as Postcard Cabins, the company now operates a growing network of peaceful retreats within two hours of major U.S. cities, providing urbanites with serene escapes that foster balance, relationships, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Today, Postcard Cabins is a leader in outdoor accommodations, with 29 Outposts offering private woodland retreats. The cabins, ranging from 140 to 200 square feet, are thoughtfully designed with natural materials like wood, glass, and metal. Interiors of Eastern White Pine create a warm, organic ambiance, while large picture windows frame breathtaking views of sunrises, starlit skies, and tranquil landscapes. Adding a personal touch, each cabin is uniquely named after the grandparents of team members and guests.
The cabins are equipped with everything needed for a comfortable, minimalist stay, including a queen bed or bunks, linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, and a hot shower stocked with essential toiletries. Climate control ensures year-round comfort, and outdoor features like a fire pit, grilling grate, and seating encourage relaxation under the stars. Guests can enjoy additional conveniences such as cookware, dishware, and a curated mini-library. Promoting digital detox, every cabin comes with a cell phone lockbox. Pet-friendly options include amenities like dog bowls, treats, waste bags, and an outdoor lead for a $50 fee. For added safety, landlines are provided in areas with limited cell service.
Select Outposts, including Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock, offer upgraded Outdoor Suites. These feature expanded outdoor spaces with hammocks, chef’s stations, and string lights, perfect for an enhanced retreat. Flexible early check-in and late check-out options allow guests to savor more time immersed in nature, making every visit to Postcard Cabins a rejuvenating experience.
