The journey of Postcard Cabins began with Jon Staff, the founder and CEO, who, at 25, sought a simpler life after the demands of a fast-paced startup left him burned out. While living in a 26-foot Airstream and traveling across the American West, Jon realized the need for a place where people could escape, recharge, and reconnect with nature. In the summer of 2015, he and his college friend Pete Davis launched the company, originally named Getaway. The first cabin, Ovida, opened in southern New Hampshire near Boston and quickly gained popularity. By April 2016, with widespread media coverage and investor support, the company expanded to a second location in New York. As demand grew, Postcard Cabins continued to open new sites and now offers locations near major cities across the United States. Drawing from his journey, Jon advocates for work-life balance through disconnection, fostering deeper relationships, job satisfaction, and an appreciation for life’s simple joys, like spending time in nature and with loved ones.
Today, Postcard Cabins operates 29 locations, all within a two-hour drive of major U.S. cities, providing a seamless escape from daily life. Each Outpost is situated on private woodlands, offering a mix of privacy and community for guests seeking meaningful experiences, more free time, and a stronger connection to nature. The custom-built tiny cabins, ranging from 140 to 200 square feet, incorporate natural elements like wood, metal, and glass, with Eastern White Pine creating a warm, organic interior. Large picture windows invite guests to wake up to sunrises or fall asleep under the stars. Each cabin bears a unique name, honoring the grandparents of team members and guests.
Every cabin is equipped for a simple and comfortable stay, featuring a queen bed or bunks, linens, a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, toilet, and hot shower with provided toiletries. Heating and air conditioning ensure year-round comfort, while a fire pit, grilling grate, and outdoor seating create opportunities for relaxation. Essentials like cookware, dishware, and a mini-library are included, and a cell phone lockbox encourages guests to unplug. Dogs are welcome for a $50 fee, with amenities like bowls, treats, waste bags, and an outdoor lead. Each cabin also includes a landline for emergencies, offering peace of mind even with limited cell phone service.
Select locations, such as Talladega Valley, Eastern Catskills, Machimoodus, Shenandoah, and Starved Rock, feature Outdoor Suites with larger spaces that include hammocks, chef’s stations, and string lights. Guests can enhance their stays with options for early check-in or late check-out, making it easier to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
