Vipp Cold Hawaii

Sleeps up to 6 - 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

On a vast 9,900 m² stretch of land in Thy National Park, Vipp Cold Hawaii emerges as a strikingly modern yet harmonious retreat. Set in the remote coastal town of Vangså, where no neighbors are in sight, the guesthouse blends into the endless plains of Leymus grass, its geometric forms subtly echoing the timeless fisherman’s cottages scattered along the dunes. From a distance, the structure appears traditional, but as guests approach, the minimalist architecture and meticulous craftsmanship reveal a space where contemporary design and natural elements exist in perfect balance.

Located along the Cold Hawaii coastline, a stretch beloved by surfers for its powerful waves and untamed beauty, the guesthouse offers direct access to Denmark’s largest national park. The sensation of stepping outside into a vast, uninterrupted landscape evokes a sense of solitude and connection with nature. Architect Ebbe Lavsen describes it as "almost a moon-like terrain," a place where the wind, sand, and sea shape the experience as much as the architecture itself.

The two-story, 185 m² house is designed for both comfort and simplicity, featuring three double bedrooms, two of which integrate custom-built bunk beds for additional sleeping space. A spacious open-plan living area is anchored by a striking Vipp V3 metal kitchen, a centerpiece that serves as both a practical workspace and a sculptural focal point. Interior designer Julie Cloos Mølsgaard envisioned the kitchen as “an altar from where you can cook to the rhythm of the ocean,” placing it at the heart of the home. A six-unit island in dark metal is set against a backdrop of tall oak cabinets, seamlessly integrated with a dining and lounge area that maximizes the panoramic coastal views.

Inspired by the surrounding dunes, cliffs, and beaches, the interiors feature a subdued palette of sandy tones and natural textures. Vipp Swivel chairs upholstered in a rich wool-linen blend, custom poufs, and textured cushions add warmth to the space, while a large custom oak wardrobe in the entrance hall subtly divides the dining area. On either side of the wardrobe, the ‘Lineated Luminary’ wall carpet by local artist Rasmus Søndergaard Johanssen adds depth and texture, reinforcing the home’s connection to its natural setting.

Throughout the house, carefully selected materials and artworks heighten the sensory experience. In the high-ceilinged hallway, a ceramic installation by Parisian artist Bénédicte Vallet depicts a shark’s jaw, a subtle nod to the power of the surrounding ocean. In the ground-floor bathroom, custom-woven cotton drapery by textile designer Benthe Boesen allows sunlight to filter through, creating a soft, diffused glow. The largest Vipp bath module, complemented by a horizontally placed mirror and understated accessories, enhances the airiness of the space.

Every detail in Vipp Cold Hawaii is designed to create a tranquil retreat that encourages a slower, more intentional way of living. The carefully chosen furnishings, from the handwoven textiles to the sculptural seating, invite guests to relax and reconnect with nature. Whether spending the day surfing the legendary waves, hiking through the dunes, or simply unwinding with a book in the warmth of the living space, visitors are immersed in an experience where design and wilderness exist in effortless harmony.
